New Class Just for Preschoolers!

Not sure if you all knew, but Ms Florie has both a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and a Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education. Not only has she taught Kindergarten and Preschool, but she also led two very highly regarded early childhood centers as their director and coordinator of curriculum.

So, when she sat down to plan out this year's morning classes for young children, she decided to go all out, and bring your the wonderful experiences that she was able to bring to her schools.

Inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach to educating young children, she designed the new Preschool Makers Studio class with the idea that caregivers and their children ages three and up can work together on long-term projects based on a challenge given at the beginning of each 4 week session.

Although each class has a theme, the nature of the class is to focus on the process of creation giving value to the interactions between the child and a more experienced adult (which is the basis of what we call in the trade, "scaffolding" or social constructivist theory).

It is a great opportunity for children who are not enrolled full time in preschool to spend a morning exercising that part of their brain that many other preschools now-a-days do not focus on anymore.

We will start out our morning with a "warming in" period, where children have time to explore sensory play experiences and simple open ended art materials. Then, we will gather to find out more about the day's challenge, then add each week to a masterpiece of creation that they will be able to interact with and play with at home.

The memories you will create with your child will be priceless, and it is a great way to connect with your child over process art and play in a supportive atmosphere. You might also find some other like-minded caregivers to share ideas with, and pick Ms Florie's brain a bit if you want to!

Enrollment is open now on our registration page. The cost is $55 per 4 week session. Class is from 10:45-12:00 Tuesdays or Wednesdays. You must commit to one of those days, however, if you can't come on your day, you can do a makeup day on the other day it is offered.

Remember, this class is for children ages 3 and up, so if you have a younger child, check out our Little Art and Play class!
