Free Trial Classes at Yellow Bird Studio: Classes Start This Week!

First, a big great THANK YOU to everyone who came to the studio this past summer! We felt like the summer camps just flew by because we were all having such a great time creating art and making friends!

Our Fall Semester classes start the week of August 17th and we have some spots left in our new class lineup. We moved some times around to offer more time for our Art Lab 2, 3, and 4 students, increasing the time to 1.5 hours which our returning students are super happy about! We also added a new class this year called Sew Cute, that welcomes children who are new to hand sewing and more experienced hand sewers who are ready for more complex, multiple piece patterns. These are only offered at the Gunn Highway and Westshore Blvd locations this fall semester.

We are bringing back some favorites from last year, like Wild Art, which incorporates learning about animals from around the world with art. If you think about it, art and science are so closely related, because both rely on careful observation of the world around us. People like James Audubon and even Beatrix Potter were not only exceptional artists, but they actually were curious scientists, recording the things they saw around them and bringing new insights to the world. Why not let your butting naturalist join in that long tradition of art and science!

Art Masters is a great class for kids who love to have a bit more direction or parents who appreciate that for their children. We choose from the wide world of historical and contemporary art, as well as arts and crafts traditions from around the world to give a multi-media experience that increases children's cultural literacy.

And for those children who just love to draw and paint and want to improve their skills, Draw and Paint Classes are the perfect way to give them direct instruction and guidance so that they can do that. Level 1 is for younger children who need to learn how to use observation to understand how to draw accurately, as well as introducing and reinforcing the 5 elements of drawing, basic color theory, and painting techniques. Level 2 is for children who feel confident in their observational drawing skills, but want to learn and work on more advanced skills such as different kinds of perspective, human figure drawing and more advanced painting techniques and color theory. A free trial class will help you decide if you child is ready for a particular class or not and the instructor will give you feedback as to placement.

And then there are our other textile arts classes, Crochet Club, Stitch Clubs (Gunn Highway and The Hights only) and Knitting Club (Gunn Highway only). Ms Mariana is our professional sewer/crochet instructor who will guide your child through these satisfying hobbies that they will remember for a lifetime and we are so lucky to have her at Yellow Bird Studio. If trying to decide between Beginner and Advanced Stitch Clubs, we recommend that students who are brand new to hand sewing, embroidery and other textile arts join Beginner Stitch Club. Students who can do the basics well can join Advanced Stitch Club. Crochet and Knitting Clubs are best for children age 9 and up who can handle the initial frustrations associated with the steep learning curve in mastering the basics (if your have tried either, you know what we are talking about!). Once they have those basics down, the class begins to progress in challenges and you will see some amazing growth (and lots of requests for yarn, LOL!)

All our school year classes are offered weekly from August through May (excluding Thanksgiving Week, Winter Break and Hillsborough County Schools Spring Break week) and are offered during three semesters, Fall (August 17-November 6), Winter (November 9 -February 19) and Spring (February 22-May 21). If there is room in a class, you can join any time during the semester and the tuition portion will be prorated. Students enrolled in a current semester have priority to re-enroll in an upcoming semester, and if there is no room, you will be added to a waitlist and advised when there is an opening.
