Our Approach
The visual arts is one of the best ways to help people of all ages unwind, practice mindfulness, express feelings and create a sense of well being- all while developing a hobby or practice that you can enjoy the rest of your life!
Our art instructor's role is to introduce new media, techniques, projects, artists, and encourage the students to see the value of self-expression as part of a healthy, well balanced life.
We offer two kinds of classes for children interested in art and craft making and both are wonderful opportunities for them to gain confidence in their creativity skills.
Process Art Classes: When children own the process, they own the learning! We follow the Teaching for Artistic Behavior approach , where there are no templates, no models, just encouragement and guidance with virtually all the material and media the studio has! Children are independent and free to discover, experiment, make mistakes, self-correct, use critical thinking, engage with peers for support and information. The instructor's role is to support artistic process and inquiry while teaching specific skills that are more individualized. Classes that use this format Art Lab, Mixed Media Makers and Imagination Club.
Skill/Concept Classes: Our second type of class is teacher directed, structured and skill/concept based. In these classes, the teacher leads the children through a specific art or craft project, with room for personal style, choice and interpretation always allowed. This format is best for children who love to learn from other people, use a model for inspiration, and can accept feedback and direction to ensure a final project that they are proud of. Classes that follow this format are Art Masters, Wild Art, Draw and Paint Club, Craft Club, Stitch Club, Crochet Club and Knitting Class.
